This manuscript is a collection of texts that the Milanese Galeazzo Arconati (1592-1648), who owned numerous original manuscripts by Leonardo, had sent to Cassiano dal Pozzo (1588-1657) in Rome between 1634 and 1640.

| Analysis This manuscript was compiled in the library of Cassiano dal Pozzo in Rome around 1640. It contains the working materials that Cassiano received from Milan in relation to the planned publication project. These materials were meant to extend the topics covered in the abridged Treatise on Painting, but ultimately they were not included in the final publication. These materials include: Excerpts on light and shadows from Leonardo’s MS C and Codex Atlanticus; notes on perspective, effects of motion and hydraulics based on Leonardo’s based Manuscripts B, I, F, E and G; notes on drapery, human motion, anatomy and proportion, equine proportion, perspective, landscape; the autograph of the Memorie that Giovanni Ambrogio Mazenta had sent to Cassiano; a list of chapters that were particularly difficult to understand and that the Roman editors wished would be checked on Leonardo’s originals in Milan. |
| History M2 was sent from Milan to Cassiano dal Pozzo in Rome between 1634 and 1640. From 1714 to 1721 it was in the Albani library in Rome, and later it entered the Biblioteca Ambrosiana. Taken by Napoleaon to France in 1798, it was returned to the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in 1815. |
